Over the last two days of Term 1, a group of five Prep boys competed at the NSW Primary School Sports Association Swimming Championships as part of the NSW CIS team. The boys continued their success in the pool this term with more outstanding results. Timmy Zhao, Daniel Jin, Aris Ferizis and Harris Yang combined to earn second place in the 4 x 50m Junior Freestyle relay. Daniel and Aris teamed with 3 other boys in the CIS team to claim first place in the 5 x 50m All Age Freestyle relay. Daniel and Aris both came first in the Under 8 and Under 9 50m Freestyle respectively. Aris also placed third in the Under 9 50m Breaststroke, Butterfly and Junior 200m. Harris placed first in the Under 10 50m Backstroke and Jaemin Yoo, Prep Captain of Swimming for 2021, earned a respectful fifth in the Under 12’s 50m Breaststroke. I would like to commend these swimmers for their efforts in the pool and also for the manner in which they represented the School out of the pool.
On Wednesday the Prep Cross Country team competed at the IPSHA Cross Country Championships held at The King’s School. As always, the boys ran well and gave their best which resulted in some excellent results. Congratulations to Harris Yang who finished 2nd in the Under 10 division and Aris Ferizis who came 15th in the Under 9 division. Both have now qualified for the CIS Championships to be held at Eastern Creek Raceway later in the term. Other notable results were Domenic Alvaro in the Under 11 division who finished 31st and Timmy Zhao who finished 49th in the Under 9 division.
On Thursday we finalised our teams ahead of the first round of Winter Sport. I must remind all boys and parents that selections are always ongoing as it is important to continually push the boys to achieve their potential. If your son is not happy with the team that he has been placed in, I encourage you to contact me so that I can direct you to your son’s coach for feedback. There are various criteria for selection, and I assure all parents that the placement of boys is not based on skill and ability alone, but also on attitude, application and, most importantly, what is best for the team. I thank you in advance for fostering this mindset with your son.
